A Lesson in Healthcare From the Tortoise and the Hare.

Healthcare often moves at a rapid pace—decisions are made quickly, and there is an unspoken expectation to move forward without hesitation.

But I once had a physician tell me something I did not immediately appreciate: that the best treatment, at times, is a “tincture of time.” Much to my chagrin, it was not the answer I was hoping for. He said it with a smile, too. I wanted something concrete, immediate, black and white. I dug my heals in and waited.

Like many patients and parents, I wanted clarity, resolution, and forward movement. I wanted answers that felt definitive.

But over time—and through my own experiences, as well as those involving my children—I came to understand the depth of that statement.

Not all outcomes are meant to be rushed. In fact, many of the best ones are not.

Healthcare is not a race. It is far more akin to the steady, intentional pace of the tortoise rather than the hurried urgency of the hare. A second opinion allows for that pause—for reflection, for deeper understanding, and for informed decision-making.

At ClearPath, we believe that thoughtful care, grounded in both expertise and time, leads to more confident outcomes.

Because sometimes, what feels like waiting…is actually healing.
